It is a piece on memory and longing. The intention was for the character to stumble upon an emotion in a place where she wouldn’t expect to find it: by looking for a missing cat, she finds herself longing for a long lost person. I directed this short film inspired by the barren landscape of a small island in the middle of the Sea of Marmara in Turkey. The landscape lent itself to the character’s inner world with its strong winds, empty spaces and the dirty waters of the polluted beach. It was a rewarding experience to work with the actors since neither of them are trained actors but both offered a genuine take on the characters. I aimed to create a space where they could improvise around the dialogue on a very mundane subject matter. I wanted to see how two people who have something very important to say to each other will say anything in order to avoid it. |
